Miami is a legitimate option for Raptors guard Kyle Lowry in free agency, tweets Tim Reynolds of The Associated Press. A source tells Reynolds that the Heat “have his attention and have had it for a while.”
Lowry will be among the top point guards on the market when free agency begins Monday, with the Pelicans, Mavericks and Sixers all likely to be heavily involved. Toronto may also make a strong bid to hang onto Lowry, who has been with the organization since 2012.
There are plenty of rumors on the eve of free agency:
- Many teams are expected to be interested in veteran guard Goran Dragic if the Heat turn down their $19.4MM team option and make him a free agent, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic (Twitter link). Charania doesn’t identify any of the potential suitors, but says they include “several NBA title and postseason contenders.” Miami has a deadline of 5:00pm Eastern Time today to reach a decision on Dragic, along with a $15MM option on Andre Iguodala.
- William Guillory and John Hollinger of The Athletic break down sign-and-trade possibilities for the Pelicans involving Lonzo Ball. The Bulls, Pacers, Clippers, Celtics and Wizards are all mentioned as potential sign-and-trade partners.
- Dwight Howard could return to the Lakers to provide help at center, Broderick Turner of the Los Angeles Times suggests in a free agent roundtable on both L.A. teams. Howard helped the Lakers win a title in 2020 before signing with the Sixers last offseason. Turner names Patty Mills, Wayne Ellington, Trevor Ariza, Carmelo Anthony, Jeff Green, Iguodala, and Dragic as other possible targets. The Clippers may pursue DeMar DeRozan if he’s willing to take a pay cut, Andrew Greif states in the same piece.
- JaVale McGee would “definitely” consider returning to the Nuggets, stating that a chance to win will be his priority in free agency, as Mark Kiszla of The Denver Post details.
this is getting ridiculous. Lakers get everyone for cheap.
Lakers Clipps GSW Bucks Nets
I don’t think Lakers and Clippers are able to sign DeRozan
Some teams/people have all the luck. Older players with $100M+ made just want to win. Not play for these bum squads
calm down there is always rumors every year that some stars take pay cuts but it rarely ever happens.
Westbrook
Hahaha
The Lakers will get all the washed up vets on minimum contracts they need to fill out their roster.
I still want to see Melo and Bron team up.
This could finally be the year.
As a Bulls fan I am not sold on Ball as the solution at PG and believe signing someone like Rose or another veteran would be wiser while looking at Dotson even more.
Personally I prefer the Bulls look at Murray instead and find a way to trade for him and let Ball go to another team…
Good PG in transition but he doesn’t go in the paint nor on the line that much, AVG+ @3 & D
I like Dotson and really like the rookie they just drafted out fo Illinois, Ayo.
Let Rose go. He’s not leaving Thibs. And he’s a good backup now, nothing more. I agree not a Ball guy anymore. Ball is talking and not letting his game do the talking. Don’t want players like that on my team. Been saying for years Bulls need a real PG. Don’t see how you pass on Halliburton. Ayo has a chance to play PG. I’d bring in pass first PGs to coach him. He has good instincts and vision. But has to get better at running a team n offense. He was a good pickup IMO.
Really surprised the Lakers weren’t more interested in reuniting with Ball.
His strength in transition passing and defense seem to fit their need more than Westbrook.
Westbrook would’ve been a better fit for Chicago
Jamal Murray???
Not sure what you would trade for him that would interest Denver
I could see the Lakers going for Melo, Wayne Ellington, and Ariza…they need a shooter at the 2, and 2 3 and D wing players, and Melo replaces Kuzma at the backup 4 behind Lebron. If they could land a 3 and D wing piece or a shooter at the 2 in a sign and trade with someone for Schroder, that’s probably the play. And then a depth big behind Davis and Gasol that can protect the rim and defend pick and roll. Double t Dwight would want such a limited, matchup based, inconsistent role, but there are others out there for that spot
Losing Caruso as a backup guard is tough, but if they can keep THT, he can help them retain the defense at those guard spots, and then probably go with a low cost guy that can score/shoot it as depth
Ariza is still worth $8 million per. Lakers need MLE to sign him
Schroeder is gone
I mean, as of right now, I wouldnt mind Aroza staying with the Heat, especially b/c I dont think they can lose both him and Iguodala, but I could see him fitting that Lakers scenario, and he obviously knows them well
If Iggy signs a minimum contract it would be with GSW but so far he has not talked about giving any team a discounted contract.
Who is the hottest now,
Lowry or Ball?
Hottest means money
As a Heat fan, I’ll be really sad if they cant retain Dragic. I want him to finish his career here so badly, and it would be awesome if we can get him another shot to be healthy in the finals at some point. I want to see that jersey in the rafters some day. Not sure if he would take $12 million on another 1+1 deal though
Dragic going to the Mavs if Heat don’t bring him back.
If Raptors help Maves SNT Lowry
Mavs 3 guard rotation will be
Luka, Lowry and Dragic
Dragic is far better than Richardson
How are the mavs going to fit both under the cap? 1 yes but not both.
I would like the mavs to build a euro/world playing team around Luka to change the way the game is played right now (5 out & High pick N’ roll)
Patty Mills + Ingles + Batum + Fournier + Nurkic would love to proove that they Can beat any US team.
That team? No
Several things are not clear.
Lakers have no choice but to after FAs. Who are older and want a ring. I was Howard I’d never go back. Lakers are not only team doing this. Clippers, Warriors, Suns, Bucks, Nets all will do this. So these players will have options.
Suns should be first to get Griffin IMO. Iggy should go back to Warriors to end it. Howard should sign with Heat. But I’d love to see Howard in NY. Nuggets should not let McGee walk. Melo should go to LA. Good place for him.
There is more parity within NBA now. The Hawks showed that last yr. This thing about putting great players together. Still depends and what you put around them. They are definitely the stars. But you win going ten deep. And staying healthy. Last year should remind US ALL that.
If I am Lowry I go somewhere I can win now, that pays him at least 15-18 per on a 3 yr deal or like a 4 year deal where half is guaranteed. Kinda a way to circumvent some cap upfront. I don’t want said team gutting their team to S&T because that defeats the win now purpose.
Should have gone to LA … But Heat is a good team for him
Dragic on GSW would make them such a legit contender even if Klay is somehow not as good anymore (which I doubt – look at KD).
I would like this pickup for them
Now that Miami exercised their option on Dragic the Warriors actually can get him since there was no way to if he had become a free agent. But they’ll have to trade for him now and about the only way is to give up both Looney and Wiseman to get him.
As far as Klay and KD’s situations, the former is barely 9 months removed from his injury while Durant took off a year and a half to recover and still missed half of the regular season, which is extremely likely for Klay next year. Good luck Warriors.
Don’t get why Dragic would fit in GS. Seems expensive for a backup. They are better off bringing back Burkes. I really like Kuminga here. He can start at SF and Wiggins can play SG. They are fine till Klay gets better. He can take his time and be strong for playoffs. Makes too much sense to me. I still see an Obrue sign-trade coming. FA starts Monday, all rumors about to start flying around now.
Why wouldn’t Rockets try and get Obrue. He fits their young guys. And Gordon fits Warriors much better.
Trade Green
